Many unique ethnic enclaves have been established in Australia due to the country’s rich and diverse immigration history. Chinatown Melbourne is one of oldest most iconic examples that date back gold rush period 1850s. Previous studies examined many aspects precinct, such as its architectural styles demography shifts. However, there a lack research investigating enclave’s urban characteristics consequent identity. This knowledge gap can lead unfeasible heritage conservation decisions with emphasis on precinct’s Hence, this study aims scrutinize past evolution present better understand value enhance future policies. Qualitative data are collected using archival literature review, map analysis, field observation. Overall, by elucidating Melbourne’s key movements, depicts identity, addressing elements like main, laneway, gateway, public space. The output provides insights into how policies initiatives benefit from case enhancing protection sustaining Further recommended incorporate quantitative methods compare results study’s findings.
